Roger McVeigh

Treasurer / Clubs

I am thrilled to represent the Florida Region of the United States Triathlon Association (USAT).  I am passionate about the fast growing sport of triathlon and its ability to bring out the best traits of individuals in our state and local communities.  The USAT Florida Region Council is charged with developing and implementing programs both from the National Office and locally to grow the sport in the Florida Region.  dsc_0008These programs include initiatives supporting USAT Annual Membership, Para-triathlon, education designed to support Race Directors, USAT Coaches, and USAT Officials, athlete recognition, regional  championship races, young talent identification including youth and college programs, Triathlon Clubs, and Special Demographics and Diversity.

I was very fortunate to be exposed to the multi-sport lifestyle of triathlon in its early days participating in an Olympic Distance Race produced by the Bud Light Series in Atlanta, Georgia in July 1988.  As often happens when individuals first participate in triathlon, I caught the “triathlon bug.”  For the next four years, I enjoyed training and racing in the southeastern United States.  In the middle 1990’s, I became consumed by a professional career as a CPA and Audit Partner and temporarily lost my connection with the multi-sport lifestyle.

Fifteen years later, after a rewarding career at KPMG LLP and the good fortune to retire early, I have been able reconnect with Triathlon and the multi-sport lifestyle while also being active volunteering for various civic causes in my local community, Key West, Florida. I have served as an officer and director of a wide variety of nonprofit organizations covering education, social services, the arts, and other important community organizations.

Since my reconnection with triathlon in 2011, I have become active as a mentor in our local multi-sport community and with the Key West Tri Club, raced often and consistently across all distances (four time ironman), qualified for USAT Nationals and Ironman 70.3 Worlds, achieved USAT All American and Ironman All World Athlete designations, become a USAT and Ironman Certified Coach and attended the USAT Officials Program

I was elected to the USAT Florida Region Council in October 2015 for a four year term beginning in January 2016. I am delighted to support the triathletes of the Florida Region as treasurer and club programs liaison.
